BYD Cars PH has a plug-in hybrid MPV on the way and we found

We already know that BYD Cars Philippines is preparing to expand its lineup further, with the upcoming introduction of the Tang DM-i, which is already being teased on their social media pages. Think that’s it? You’re wrong.

Signs are pointing at the possible introduction of the BYD eMAX 9 DM-i, known as the Xia in the Chinese market and part of the brand’s more premium Dynasty line of EVs and plug-in hybrids. And the best part? We might have found its specifications for our market.

Posted on the Department of Energy’s list of recognized plug-in hybrid vehicles is a full spec-sheet which may be for the new MPV. If accurate, it shows that our market may get two variants: Advanced and Premium, both powered by BYD’s Super DM-i powertrain.

That combines a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that makes 150 horsepower and 220Nm of torque, and an electric motor that’s capable of 272 horsepower and 315Nm.

The Advanced comes with a 20.4kWh battery, while the Premium gets a larger 36.6kWh battery. Exact driving range estimates were not provided but our research returned a figure of 1,060km. Either variant is also compatible with Type 2 AC or CCS2 DC charging.

And in case you didn’t know, the eMAX 9 DM-i is actually BYD’s Toyota Alphard and GAC M8 fighter. As such, it will have big shoes to fill in the features department.

Standard exterior equipment on both Advanced and Premium variants could include full LED exterior lighting, active grille shutters, power sliding rear doors18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin tires, and double-layered soundproof and heat-insulated glass.

Meanwhile, standard interior equipment on the Advanced could be leather seat upholstery, ventilated front seats, second row captain seats, a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an eight-speaker audio system, and single color ambient lighting.

The Premium will be a tad more…premium…than the Advanced with Nappa leather upholstery, electrically-adjustable second row captain seats with adjustable butterfly headrests, seat ventilation, leg rests, and massage function. It could also get 128-color ambient lighting, an in-car refrigerator, a 12-speaker audio system, and a full suite of ADAS.

There’s a lot to look forward to with the BYD eMAX 9 DM-i. Right now, this is still only speculation until we receive any form of confirmation from BYD Cars Philippines. One thing is for sure though, they really have big plans for our market.
